In this 4-week online CompTIA IT Fundamentals program, you’ll build a strong foundation in computer hardware, software, mobile technology, networking, troubleshooting, and emerging innovations.

The IT Professional Skills and Ethics in the Age of AI course complements your technical training by developing essential soft skills, including communication, problem-solving, time management, and adaptability—skills especially important in today’s AI-driven world.

Through the CompTIA IT Fundamentals course, you’ll gain core knowledge to maintain, support, and work confidently with personal computers. Key topics include hardware components, operating systems, application software, networking technologies, protocols, web browsers, system security, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance. You’ll also explore cutting-edge technologies like cloud computing and virtualization.

Upon completion, you’ll be prepared to sit for the Tech+ certification exam, sponsored by CompTIA (exam fee included). This certification opens doors to entry-level IT roles such as PC Support Technician, Network Support Technician, Technical Specialist, or Help Desk Specialist.

What is an IT Fundamentals certification?

An IT Fundamentals, Tech+, certification provides foundational IT skills useful in office-based careers or as a stepping stone into the IT field. It covers essential tasks such as setting up, configuring and troubleshooting computer workstations and basic wireless devices. This certification also prepares individuals for advanced IT certifications like Network+ or Security+.

Employment in computer and information technology occupations is expected to grow much faster than the average from 2022 to 2032, with an estimated 377,500 job openings each year due to growth and turnover.

To become an IT professional, you need a high school diploma or equivalent and specialized training through an institution such as Amara. Then, you can obtain your CompTIA Tech+ certification to show you have the skills to set up and install common devices, manage applications software, troubleshoot problems and more.

The total duration of Amara’s Fundamentals of IT Online Certification program is 3 weeks if completing 15-20 hours of coursework per week.

Amara’s certification programs are fully online and designed for remote learning, allowing students to progress at their own pace. The instructional design incorporates interactive elements, simulations and expert instruction. 

Required courses for the Fundamentals of IT program include CompTIA IT Fundamentals.

Amara includes exam fees and preparation materials in the program cost. The courses are designed to prepare students to take and pass the CompTIA Tech+ exam. Additionally, Amara students are provided access to a Student Success Advisor team, Subject Matter Experts and Career Coaches to assist with exam prep.

The program includes expert-led video training, eBooks and competency assessments. Amara-covered materials also include the cost of the national certification exam. Students get access to additional services like dedicated advisors and tailored support as well.

We’re not institutionally accredited as a training provider, but the certification you’ll earn in this program is accredited through the exam-issuing authority, CompTIA. So while our school itself doesn’t hold accreditation, you’ll earn an accredited certification upon passing your national exam.
