What Does an Information Systems Security Professional Do?

The CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) is widely recognized as the premier credential in the field of data security. Earning this certification validates that the holder has more than five years of professional experience in IT security, possesses deep knowledge across the eight domains of cybersecurity, and demonstrates expertise in areas such as risk identification, risk management, and building and maintaining secure IT infrastructures.

With a CISSP, you’ll open doors to a wide range of advanced IT career opportunities. Common roles include IT Security Manager, who ensures the security of organizational systems; Ethical Hacker, who works with IT teams to identify vulnerabilities; and Penetration Tester, who tests the strength of current systems. Other career paths include specialties in forensics, security analysis, engineering, and information assurance, making CISSP one of the most versatile and respected certifications in the cybersecurity industry.

  • Examine the eight domains within the CISSP Body of Knowledge (BOK).
  • Review core concepts of security, governance, and risk management.
  • Recognize the role of ethics, laws, and regulations in information security.
  • Evaluate best practices to minimize security risks across enterprise frameworks, networks, and technologies.
  • Recognize the importance of personnel security policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Assess how procedures, structures, and standards influence the design and implementation of IT systems.
