What You’ll Learn – HI 6200 EKG Technician

Launch your healthcare career as an EKG Technician with our 12-week online certification program. According to the U.S. Department of Labor and Burning Glass Technologies, EKG Tech positions are expected to grow by 10–17% over the next eight years, with the highest demand in specialties like echocardiography, vascular technology, and Holter monitoring. Advances in technology will continue driving this need, creating opportunities for skilled individuals to operate increasingly sophisticated equipment.

Through this program, you’ll be prepared for the Certified EKG Technician (CET) exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Training includes medical terminology, disease processes, and practical instruction on patient care tasks such as monitoring blood pressure, positioning patients, applying Holter monitors, and assisting cardiologists with stress testing.

This program also includes the Professionalism in Allied Health course, equipping you with essential customer service and communication skills to ensure positive interactions with patients and medical professionals. Many students use this certification as a first step toward advanced healthcare roles, such as Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, or Patient Care Technician.

Graduates may pursue roles such as EKG Technician, ECG Technician, Electrocardiograph Technician, Cardiac Technician, Telemetry Technician, Medical Instrument Technician, Cardiac Monitoring Technician, Cardiovascular Technician, Cardiac Stress Technician, or Holter Monitor Technician.

Exam Eligibility: To sit for the CET exam, students must complete a minimum of 10 live EKGs. While certifications are awarded after successfully passing the exam and fulfilling clinical requirements, students are responsible for securing their own clinical site. Employment in a healthcare facility can help meet this requirement. We strongly recommend researching local employer expectations and state requirements before enrollment.
