What does a Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach do?

Personal Trainers work with individuals or small groups in gyms, fitness centers, or even in clients’ homes. They assess current fitness levels, identify personal goals, design tailored workout programs, and track progress over time. Nutrition Coaches, on the other hand, focus on guiding clients toward healthier eating habits and empowering them to take control of their overall well-being. Success in nutrition coaching requires both a strong foundation in nutritional science and an understanding of behavior change strategies—skills that Personal Trainers are uniquely positioned to build upon.

By earning a nutrition coaching certification, fitness professionals can expand their expertise, increase earning potential, and offer a more holistic approach to client care. Combining these two roles allows professionals to address both fitness and nutrition needs, creating more comprehensive programs and better client outcomes.

  • Develop a strong foundation in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, communication, and interpersonal soft skills required of allied healthcare professionals.
  • Master key health and fitness concepts, including nutrition, program design, human movement science, and fitness assessments.
  • Develop skills in teaching, customer service, and first aid.
  • Build strong organizational and communication skills.

What You’ll Learn – HF 3000 NASM Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach

The Amara NASM Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach program provides students with the knowledge and skills to earn two premier certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) – the Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and Certified Nutrition Coach (CNC).

Students entering this program should have the physical strength and confidence to model proper exercise form, basic experience operating gym equipment, and the ability to give clear instructions for safe use. Personal Trainers are also expected to create fitness and health reports, provide positive reinforcement, and adapt strategies to help clients achieve and exceed their health goals.

The NASM-CPT is recognized as the gold standard in fitness training and is NCCA-accredited, a distinction required by many gyms and fitness facilities. Pairing the CPT with the CNC certification sets Amara graduates apart, giving them a competitive advantage in the industry. With both credentials, trainers are equipped to serve a wider client base, offer holistic fitness and nutrition guidance, and increase their earning potential.

To support success in healthcare-related environments, this program includes HI-1014: Introduction to Human Anatomy and Medical Terminology, ensuring students can understand and use the language of medicine while building a strong foundation in human anatomy and physiology.

In addition, students will complete PS-1011: Professionalism in Allied Health, a course designed with direct input from healthcare employers. This training develops essential soft skills, such as communication, professionalism, and adaptability, which are critical for long-term success in today’s competitive job market.
